Not Your Mother's Author

Tina Moss is a writer of urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and romantic suspense. She lives in NYC with a supportive husband and alpha corgi, though both males hog the bed and refuse to share the covers. When not writing, she enjoys reading, watching cheesy horror flicks, traveling, and karate. As a 5'1" Shotokan black belt, she firmly believes that fierce things come in small packages.

A Clash of Kings - George R.R. Martin Started off slow. First two thirds of the book didn't hold my interested, but I enjoyed the last third. I still have to give it four stars because the story is so complex and Martin handles the complexities with expert finesse. I'm liking the show more, but I can't discount the books.

Flutter Of Luv

Flutter Of Luv - L.M. Preston Read this in pre-pub version and I absolutely adore this story!
Dragon Bound - Thea Harrison Brand new view for the paranormal romance market. We've got dragons, gryphons, harpies, dark fae, elves, and wyr kind. Love the world building, settings and unique take on NYC.

The heroine, Pia, didn't draw me in as much as I'd like and her use of the phrase "You're not the boss of me" drove me a bit batty. I couldn't imagine a woman at 25 years old using that line. I also felt she came off as more of a damsel-in-distress type. Not my favorite.

The hero, Dragos, on the other hand is your standard alpha male and...a dragon. No spoilers, you know if from the beginning. And really how can anyone complain about dragons? :)

Overall, this struck me more as a 3.5, but I look forward to reading more of Harrison's Elder Race books.
Magic Strikes - Ilona Andrews Why yes I am now a diehard fan of Ilona (and Gordon) Andrews and the Kate Daniels series. Why do you ask?

Book 3 is the best one yet. The tension between Kate and Curran flies off the charts. Little Julie, sexy bouda Rachel, sharpshooter Andrea, teen were Derek and werepanther Jim are all back! Let me not forget mother-hen Dr. Doolittle too. I couldn't be happier. Each of these characters is so well written and well rounded, they practically jump off the page.

We also learn more about the mystery behind Kate's blood and the connection to her biological father. Cannot wait for the ultimate showdown between her and Daddy dearest. Equally looking forward to the Kate-Curran battle of love.

Off to track down book 4!
Magic Burns - Ilona Andrews 4.5 stars. Brilliant. Adore Kate Daniels even more in this installment. If not for some of the descriptions that I found myself skimming over, I'd have given it five stars. Kate's voice is perfect. Curran is fierce in all of his Beast Lord glory. The additions of Andrea, Julie and Bran made for interesting side characters. Can't wait to get to the next book.
The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Character Expression - Becca Puglisi, Angela Ackerman I've loved the online version for years. I am so happy to have this full version now as a resource for my writing.
Dark Possession - Christine Feehan Giving this one a 3.5. The hero didn't sit well with me as some of her other Carpathian males.
The Selkie Spell (Seal Island Trilogy #1) - Sophie Moss The Selkie Spell is a heartwarming Irish fairy tale. Romance readers will be enchanted by this story. It features Tara, an American woman with a secret. She travels to Seal Island on the west coast of Ireland and falls for the handsome bartender, Dominic, and his sweet daughter, Kelsey. But, Tara has a past that may be tangled up with the selkie legend of the captured seal-woman. In order to have her happily-ever-after, she'll have to face her demons and free the selkie trapped on the island.

ADORED this book. It is a wonderful mix of Irish folklore, a modern day twist on a fairy tale classic, and contemporary romance. Cheers for Sophie Moss and the creation of this selkie story. I hope there are many more to come.
Crossed - Ally Condie Condie's writing style is as beautiful as the poems she cites in her novel. However, the poetic prose cannot make up for what is essentially a sagging middle. The plot does not progress enough to hold my interest, and the main characters sound too alike. The first person POV made it even more difficult to tell who was speaking.

I am curious to see how the story for Cassie and Ky (and Xander) will wrap up, but I do hope the final book will give more in terms of action and plot.
Archangel's Blade - Nalini Singh Nalini Singh gets better with every book. I adore the archangel series and this installation with Dmitri and Honor as the main characters was just dynamite; Their chemistry explosive. Their individual suffering and "demons" echoed one another and added a layer of sensitivity and compassion to the story. Helping each other to exorcise those demons - both metaphorically and literally - strengthened the romance and relationship btw the characters.

Although I love Elena and Raphael, I hope upon hope Singh gives us more stories of The Seven. Illium anyone?
Seduced By Shadows - Jessa Slade Stars: 3.5. I found the story engaging and the characters interesting. Sera didn't draw me in as much as I hoped, but I did find her pain believable. Archer's issues also felt real. I like the side characters of Bookie and Nanette. The plot flows well. Although, I would liked to have seen Sera resist a little more and not handle the situation quite as well as she did. She seemed more inquisitive about it, instead of freaking out.

The world building was the problem for me. It was very intricate and I can only imagine the amount of notes the author has on it. However, it wasn't conveyed well enough to understand - too many unique terms (talya, teshuva, djinn, etc.), demon types not explained well (enigma-class etc), the powers weren't clear (still not sure of Sera's exact ability) and the descriptions were beautiful but too abstract for me to actually imagine.

That said, there is so much opportunity for growth here - both with the storylines in the series and the author's writing. I think once Slade figures out how to show us more of her world and make it palpable, we'll see great things from her.
Dizzy Miss Lizzie - R.M. Clark Such a fun read. I liked the mystery surrounding Lizzie Bellows, and taking the ride with Kasey as she discovered the secrets. I also admired the amount of detail given to preserving the historical aspects - the clothes, scenery, transportation, etc of the Lizzie time period. It reminds me of the "Now and Then" film with the teenage girls solving the town mystery. My only complaint is that I wanted more of Lizzie. Her story can be another novel all on its own. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Never Love a Highlander - Maya Banks My favorite of the trilogy. Strong heroine. Fun story. I read it in two sittings. I only wish there were more of these highlander books by Maya Banks.
The Lady of the Storm - Kathryne Kennedy Rating: 3.5

I enjoyed the interactions between the two main characters, Giles and Cecily, but I did not connect with the larger the story about the Rebellion and her father as much as I did in the first book. I loved that Cecily was a strong heroine and Giles a worthy match for her. I wish only that the overarching storyline kept my interest as much. Regardless, I still like this unique world and will be reading the next book.
The Darkest Seduction (Hqn) - Gena Showalter Loved, adored! The only negative about this book is that it has to end. Wonderful new chapter in the Lords of the Underworld series. Looking forward to the spinoff series with the angels.
The Iron Hunt (Hunter Kiss, Book 1) - Marjorie M. Liu Great read. Very unique. Reminded me of Japanese anime/manga. Love the little demons, especially Zee!
